Marketing and systems for metal, plastics, rubber and materials manufacturers selling components, not brands.

The problem with selling a component

  1. You get specified long before you get contacted. An engineer picks a material and a tolerance, and if you were not in that document, no amount of sales effort recovers it.

  2. Your buyer compares on price because nothing else is visible. Lead time, consistency and support are what you actually compete on — and none of it shows up in a spec sheet.

  3. The export market is the growth, and it is where you have no presence at all. Distributors in the next country do not know you exist.

What changes versus generic B2B marketing

Be findable at specification, not at purchase

By the time there is a purchase order the decision is made. The content that matters answers the questions asked while the spec is still being written.

Give the distributor something to forward

Export growth runs through people who have to sell you in a room you are not in. If your materials cannot be forwarded and understood without you, they will not be.

Make the quote the easy part

Components mean variants, tolerances and volumes. Quoting them by hand is slow and leaks margin. The engine that answers fast and shows margin before the price goes out is a competitive advantage, not an internal tool.

Questions materials manufacturers ask us

We sell through distributors. Does marketing reach anyone useful?

It reaches two audiences at once, and both matter. The end engineer who specifies your material searches before anyone contacts a distributor, and the distributor themselves needs materials they can forward to a customer without you in the room. In one published case, an industrial hose manufacturer with no presence outside its home market generated qualified leads in four export markets — Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica and Venezuela.

How do we open an export market where nobody knows us?

With the website and the sales kit first, then demand. A technical buyer in another country will check whether you look like a company worth the freight and the customs risk, and that judgement is made before any conversation. Building demand into a presence that cannot survive that check wastes the demand.

Our product is a commodity. Can marketing do anything about price pressure?

It can move the comparison off price, which is the only real answer. When the buyer only sees a material and a number, price is all there is to compare. When lead time, consistency, certification and support are visible and documented, the comparison widens — and that is a content and systems problem, not a sales one.

Every engagement starts with the Diagnostic — it decides what gets fixed first.
